PDRN Eye Drop Korea: Why a Drop Can't Reach the Skin Under Your Eyes

PDRN eye drop Korea questions, answered by a Seoul skin doctor: why a drop can't reach under-eye skin, what PN injection can do, its risks and who should wait.

They belong with your eye doctor, and they do nothing for the skin around your eyes. If your PDRN eye drop Korea search is really about thin, crinkled skin under the eyes, the treatment that reaches it is an injection into that skin, and no drop gets there. I suspect a needle that close to your eye is the exact thing you hoped a drop would let you skip.

That fear stops a lot of people at this point. For Rejuran, I handle everything myself, from the consultation to the injection. The numbing I use, plasma 5-step anesthesia (5A+), lets you choose a level from 0+ to 5+.

If the needle is what's holding you back, send a daylight photo of your lower lids without makeup on WhatsApp. Add the one question you'd want answered first, for example how level 0+ compares with level 3+. That way you're asking about your own eyelids from the very first message.

Where a drop goes, and where it can't

An eye drop lands in the tear film and spreads over the cornea and the inner surface of the lids. Most of it drains away through the tear ducts within minutes. It never travels through the eyelid to the skin on the outside.

Skin works the other way round. Its outer layer is built to keep large molecules out. Dermatology researchers Bos and Meinardi described a rough cut-off: compounds above about 500 daltons pass poorly through intact skin. PDRN and PN are chains of DNA fragments, many times larger than that. That's why a PDRN cream or serum mostly works at the surface.

The target for under-eye texture sits deeper. The fibroblasts that make collagen live mainly in the dermis, roughly 0.5 to 2 mm below the surface, varying by area. The lower lid is at the thin end of that range.

Two safety rules follow from this. Anything made for skin stays out of your eye, whatever the label says, because eye drops are made sterile for a reason. And an eye drop dabbed on your lower lid won't do the job of a skin treatment either. Some people try to push serum deeper with needling. I've written about whether microneedling belongs alongside a skin booster if you were considering that route.

What do PDRN eye drops actually do for the eye?

PDRN, short for polydeoxyribonucleotide, is made of DNA fragments, usually taken from salmon or trout. PN, the ingredient in Rejuran, is its longer-chain relative. Both are studied for tissue repair, and a paper in Pharmaceutics compares the two molecules and how they are used in dermatology.

For the eye itself, the evidence is still early. A 2022 study in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences injured the corneas of zebrafish and treated them with salmon-derived PDRN. That is a fish model, and it tells you little about dry eyes after years of contact lenses.

I'm a skin doctor. Which drop suits a dry, scratchy or injured eye is a decision for an ophthalmologist who has examined your cornea, and I won't tell you which drop to buy in Seoul. If your eyes are the problem, start with them and come back to the skin question afterward.

If it's the skin under your eyes, what can a PN injection do?

In short, this is the part I can answer. I use four Rejuran products from PharmaResearch, and one of them is made for the thin skin around the eyes, for fine lines and crepey texture. Which one you get, or whether you get a combination, I decide after I've looked at your skin.

It treats the quality of the skin: fine lines, the crinkled look when you smile, thin skin that shows every late night. What it can't do matters just as much. A deep hollow under the eye is a volume problem. Puffy bags usually come from fat pushing forward. Brown or bluish darkness can be pigment, or blood vessels showing through. A PN injection doesn't move fat, fill a deep groove or erase pigment, and I'd say so in the consultation. There's a longer piece on what Rejuran can and can't do under the eye if you want the detail.

If your under-eye skin is also dry, PN combined with hyaluronic acid is often chosen for skin that needs hydration too. I've compared Rejuran HB and Rejuran Healer in a separate post.

The first thing I do is sit down with you and look. I check thickness, texture and sensitivity first, then set the depth and amount for you, and I go through the aftercare before you leave. On the lower lid that order matters more than anywhere else on the face. There, the gap between the dermis and too deep is a fraction of a millimeter.

The needle near your eye: what numbing does and doesn't do

The trade-off is built into the treatment. Rejuran works in the shallow dermis, and the shallower the injection, the more it hurts. When pain can't be controlled, Rejuran often ends up deeper than the dermis, where it hurts less and can also do less.

So numbing comes first, and it's what lets me stay at the right depth. With 5A+ you pick a level from 0+ to 5+. Level 0+ equals the standard numbing cream used in dermatology, and the higher levels step up from there. You will still feel something, and pain tolerance varies from person to person, but you choose how much numbing you get before the first point.

I inject by hand, point by point, adjusting depth, pressure and angle as I go. On lower-lid skin that matters, because the right depth can change from one point to the next.

Doctor's note

If your eyes are irritated, red or recently operated on, I'd rather you settle that with your eye doctor before anyone injects near them. A quiet eye first, then the skin. And if what bothers you in the mirror is a hollow or a bag, I'll tell you a PN injection is the wrong tool for it.

Before you book flights, write down the names of any eye drops you use and whether you've had eye surgery, such as LASIK, in the past year.

Risks and side effects to know

The common reactions don't last long. Small raised bumps at the injection points usually settle in about 1 to 3 days, and mild redness in about 1 to 2 days. On the lower lid, where the skin is thin and vessels sit close to the surface, bruising and puffiness can show more than on the cheek. Any injection can also cause bleeding, infection or inflammation. Results vary by individual, and that includes how long these reactions last.

As general medicine, these are reasons to wait or skip it:

  • an active infection, stye, conjunctivitis or inflamed skin near the eye
  • eye surgery in recent months, until your eye surgeon is comfortable with it
  • a recent laser or resurfacing treatment on the same area
  • oral isotretinoin, now or recently
  • pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • allergy to salmon or other fish-derived ingredients, since Rejuran's PN comes from salmon DNA

Aftercare is short. Keep using moisturizer and sunscreen, wash with lukewarm water on the day, wait 24 hours before light makeup, and avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and hard exercise for about a week.

Once you're home, the warning signs are redness that spreads, heat, and swelling or pain that gets worse after the first couple of days. Any of those needs a doctor where you live, and any change in your vision needs one the same day. The US CDC's medical tourism guidance suggests getting copies of your treatment records and arranging follow-up care at home before you travel. For an under-eye injection, that means knowing which local doctor or eye clinic you would call.

When is a drop the right answer after all?

When the problem is the eye itself. Dryness, grittiness, burning, or eyes that turn red by the end of a screen day are questions about the tear film and the eye's surface. An eye doctor is the right person for those, whether or not the drop they choose contains PDRN.

When the problem is the skin, a PDRN eye drop Korea pharmacy run won't change it. Plan around our hours: Monday to Friday 10:00 to 20:00, Saturday 10:00 to 16:00, closed Sundays and public holidays. We're in Yeouido, about four minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Yeouido Station, and Line 9 runs there from Gimpo Airport. If you'd rather not go back to work with visible bumps, book the session early in your trip.

If you're also thinking about the rest of the face, the neck or the lips, I've covered which areas to ask about for a Rejuran facial.

When you're ready, send your travel dates on WhatsApp with one line about what bothers you under your eyes, and we reply with available times.

Questions we get about pdrn eye drop korea

Can I use a PDRN serum around my eyes instead of an injection?
Yes, as skincare. Follow the product's label and keep it away from the lash line and out of the eye. It mainly hydrates and conditions the surface. It won't place PN in the dermis the way an injection does.
Is an under-eye Rejuran injection more uncomfortable than on the cheeks?
Many people expect it to be, because the skin is thinner and shallow injections are felt more. With plasma 5-step anesthesia (5A+) you choose a numbing level from 0+ to 5+. Pain tolerance still differs between people.
Will the bumps still show on my flight home?
Small bumps usually settle in about 1 to 3 days and mild redness in about 1 to 2 days. Light makeup is fine from 24 hours. If you fly the next day, expect some to still be visible.
Does a PDRN eye drop help dark circles?
No. A drop works on the surface of the eye. Dark circles can come from pigment, visible blood vessels, hollowing or shadow, and each needs a different approach. The in-person exam decides which one applies to you.
Should I talk to my eye doctor before an under-eye injection?
Yes, if you have an eye condition, use prescription eye drops, or have had eye surgery recently.

Results vary by individual. Every procedure carries the possibility of side effects, explained before you agree to treatment. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis. Suitability is decided at the consultation.
